Subashinee Krishnamurthy
Subashinee Krishnamurthy is a Bay Area–based scenic designer and builder whose work explores how space, structure, and visual elements support storytelling in performance. With over two decades of experience, she creates immersive environments for theater, dance, short films, and award show stage presentations, combining artistic vision with hands-on fabrication. As founder of Vishwakarmaa – The Design Theater, she translates movement and narrative into cohesive stage worlds through scenic design, custom fabrication, and large-scale set construction, blending traditional aesthetics with contemporary design approaches. She has designed and built visual environments for more than 100 productions across repertory theatre, community arts, professional dance presentations, short film sets, and award-stage designs throughout the Bay Area. Her collaborations include work with Siddhi Creative and other dance organizations, supporting complex thematic productions through integrated visual design. Her scenic design work has also been part of a piece performed by the Sanhiti Dance Group at the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.
Largely self-taught, she combines technical expertise in scenic carpentry, welding, and fabrication with an artist’s approach to making, believing that design transforms space into possibility and that theater keeps us learning together.
